Curriculum

Study sociology at UEL and you’ll examine social diversity, inequality, exclusion, social justice and public policy by looking at the globalisation, multiculturalism and identity formation that are shaping these issues.

You’ll explore subjects such as changing family structures, gender, ethnicity, religion, class, the welfare state, modern surveillance, social media, youth culture and ageing. The wide range of modules we offer reflects the diversity of issues that sociology encompasses.

The anthropology modules you’ll take will help you find the answers to many of the deeper questions that lie behind modern sociology. As well as looking at primate societies, fossils and archaeology, you’ll learn about urban anthropology and the contemporary social approach to subjects such as politics, economics, kinship and religion.

This BA (Hons) Sociology with Anthropology course differs from our BSc (Hons) Anthropology with Sociology course in terms of its content. On this course, it is 75 per cent sociology and 25 per cent anthropology. The BSc course has the reverse percentages.
