Entry Requirements

  • GCSE English ‘C’ or equivalent and 120 UCAS points to include either a relevant Access to HE course, Extended Diploma/GNVQ level 3 in a relevant subject or an A2 level in a performance-related subject.
  • welcome applications from learners 21+ who do not match the standard entry requirements but who can demonstrate commitment to studying this subject at university level, and, who can evidence academic or vocational experience in a related field.
  • Overseas learners can send evidence of qualifications (IELTS 5.5), work experience, and portfolio electronically (or by post) to the Programme Leader. Following receipt of this work an interview by phone will be conducted.

Curriculum

Emphasis is placed on studio based dance classes. Modules include

  • Contemporary Dance
  • Ballet
  • Improvisation and Choreography, Anatomy and Physiology
  • Performance and Repertoire, Contextual Studies
  • Collaborative Project
  • Choreographic Performance Project and Dance Techniques including jazz dance and commercial dance. 

Students also engage with fitness classes to include yoga, conditioning and strength training. Students undertake work placement as part of the Community Dance Practice module to develop skills in teaching and leading dance. Learners will receive an vibrant programme of guest lecturers and master-classes to maintain skills at the cutting edge of thinking and practice and provide essential industry links. Previous visiting companies include Mark Bruce Dance Company, Phoenix Dance Theatre, James Wilton Dance Company, Bonachela Dance Company, Frantic Assembly, Aakash Odedra Company and Foundation for Community Dance as well as a range of local Community Dance Artists.
