Entry Requirements

  • Academic competence will be assessed at interview to check suitability for the course. Requirements include a minimum of 72 UCAS points and 5 GCSEs at grades A - C which MUST include Maths and English. In addition, you must also hold a Level 3 qualification.
  • This includes A-levels (a minimum of one A-level in any subject - related subjects would be advantageous), BTEC qualifications or an International Baccalaureate of 26+. NVQs will be considered in conjunction with other qualifications.
  • We welcome applications from mature applicants who may not have these prior qualifications, but have a wealth of industrial experience that relates to the course.
  • If English is not your first language we require an IELTS score of 5.5.

Curriculum

The course comprises 16 modules for the Foundation Degree. The first four modules make up the University Certificate of Professional Development and give 60 Higher Education credits. This comprises the following modules:

  • Research,
  • Study Skills and Personal Development; Human Body
  • Differences and Diversity in Britain and an Introduction to Developmental Psychology.

On successful completion of these, you will study the additional Foundation Degree modules. These modules include an

  • Introduction to Management
  • Community Health and Well Being
  • Social Context of Family Life 
  • Introduction to Child Development.

After successful completion of Level 4, you can progress onto Level 5 of the course. The Level 5 modules are directly linked to those at Level 4, including Sociology of Health; Developing Leadership; Safeguarding Children; Parenting and Family Support; Work Based Practice; Development of Public and Community Services and Early Years, Health and Community Research Studies.
