Intakes

Entry Requirements

Candidates may be admitted through one of the following two pathways:

A. Complete and pass all courses with a minimum Grade C in the Foundation in Music program at UCSI University.

OR

B. Meet both the academic and music requirements below:

Academic Requirements

Candidates must fulfill one of the following qualifications:

  • STPM: Minimum 2 principal passes with a CGPA of 2.0

  • A Level: Minimum 2 D’s

  • UEC: At least B grade in 5 subjects

  • Foundation (UCSI or other institutions) / National Matriculation / Pre-U2 Singapore / Diploma (Level 4 KKM): Minimum CGPA of 2.0

  • High/Secondary School Diploma (Grade 12) / Canadian Grade 12 / CPU / CIMP / SAM / AUSMAT / SACE / TEE / HSC (NSW) / NTCE / WACE: Minimum of 60%

  • Other equivalent qualifications recognized by the Malaysian Government

AND, candidates must pass the music audition.

Music Audition Requirements

1. Performance Audition

  • Duration: 15 minutes

  • Memorization: Strongly encouraged for scholarship applicants

  • Repertoire:

    • Instrumental: 3 pieces of contrasting styles (e.g., Baroque, Classical, Romantic, Modern)

    • Classical Voice: 3 pieces in contrasting styles and at least two different languages (e.g., German, Italian, French, English, Chinese)

Notes:

  • String/Woodwind/Voice majors: Must bring their own piano accompanist or request one from the Institute (fee applicable).

  • Contemporary Music: May use minus-one recordings with personal playback devices.

  • Composition Majors: Submit a portfolio of compositions and pass the audition on a major instrument.

2. Aural Diagnostic Test

  • Sight singing

  • Repeating a rhythmic phrase from memory

  • Singing intervals, scales, and trials

3. Theory Diagnostic Test

  • Topics include intervals, scales, triads & 7th chords, key signatures, roman numeral/lead sheet analysis, time signatures, and cadences.

International Candidates: May request to do a live audition. Contact your course counselor or agent for more information.

English Language Requirements

For Local Students:

  • MUET: Band 3
  • SPM English Language: Grade B+
  • SPM English Language 1119/O-Level/IGCSE: Grade C
  • UEC English Language: Grade A2

If English language requirements are not met, applicants must take the Basic English and English Foundation for in-sessional academic enhancement concurrently with the program.

For International Students:

  • Cambridge English Qualifications and Tests: 154
  • Cambridge English (OET): 200
  • IELTS: Band 5.0
  • TOEFL IBT: 40
  • TOEFL Essentials (Online): 7.5
  • PTE Academic (Online): 47
  • MUET: Band 3.5
