In today's rapidly evolving world, the role of a medical doctor extends far beyond traditional patient care. To meet the challenges of a globalising healthcare landscape, future physicians must possess a comprehensive understanding of global health, environmental factors, technological advancements, and research skills.
Sunway University is thrilled to announce its partnership with Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) to launch the Sunway University Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) programme, a transformative course designed to prepare future medical professionals and clinician scientists for a globalised and rapidly advancing healthcare environment.
This collaboration harnesses UKM’s expertise and Sunway University’s innovation to integrate advanced healthcare technologies including AI, robotics, precision medicine, telemedicine, and digital health, to empower students to lead in modern healthcare. It also aligns with global health goals, inspiring students to tackle health inequities, promote sustainability, and advocate for universal health coverage.
In addition, Sunway M.D. programme offers a unique advantage through its affiliation with Sunway Medical Centre, an on-site hospital where students engage in hands-on clinical training and patient care. This enables students to translate theory into real-world skills.
Moreover, the programme promotes interdisciplinary collaboration, allowing students to work with healthcare professionals for a well-rounded understanding of patient care. It also offers transformative community engagement, like the Desa Mentari Project, building real-world experience and a commitment to service.
Professor Sibrandes Poppema, President of Sunway University, noted, “At Sunway University, we envision a medical programme that equips students with core medical skills as well as research skills while fostering a deep understanding of global health issues, environmental factors, and technological advancements. Our curriculum is designed to produce adaptable, forward-thinking medical professionals who are prepared to lead the way in a rapidly changing healthcare landscape.”
The new M.D. programme reflects Sunway University’s commitment to developing medical professionals who are not only competent and compassionate but also capable of driving positive change in a dynamic global healthcare environment.
