The China-Malaysia Innovation Future Summit 2024 was successfully held at Sunway University on 16 July 2024. The summit was organised by Sunway University and China Association for International Science and Technology (CAISTC), in partnership with the ASEAN Young Scientists Network, World Young Scientist Summit (WYSS), Global π Community, Centre for Applied Future Engineering and Sciences (CAFES), Yangtze River Delta National Innovation Center China, and the Chinese Academy of Sciences.
The event was graced by H.E. Ouyang Yujing, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the People's Republic of China to Malaysia, and YB Dato’ Haji Mohammad Yusof bin Apdal, Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Science, Technology, and Innovation.
The summit provided a platform for discussion on emerging global trends and position of both China and Malaysia as leaders in sustainable development by recalibrating current trajectories through experts from ministries, research organisations, local experts and thought leaders.
The summit also witnessed the official launch of the China-ASEAN Innovation Quest for Our FUTURE 2024. This initiative aims to engage and nurture top scientific talent from both regions by enhancing their innovation and entrepreneurial skills to address global challenges with local relevance. The Innovation Quest will be open to youth from both China and the ASEAN region.
Another significant moment was the official launch of the Global π Community Malaysia Hub. This new Hub will foster vibrant dialogues, collaborations, and partnerships in emerging technologies between young scientists, technologies, innovators and entrepreneurs in Malaysia, China, and worldwide, promoting scientific progress and sustainable development through various collective efforts.
Additionally, a Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation between China and Malaysia to establish the China-Malaysia Digital and Green Technology Industrial Park. This park, located at Pulau Carey, Selangor, spans a total land area of 1000 acres, with the first phase covering 250 acres. The collaboration emphasises principles of equality and mutual benefit.
H.E. Ouyang Yujing remarked, “This year marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia. We look forward to having both countries explore opportunities of developing new quality productive forces in the areas of digital economy, green development, AI, and energy.”
Professor Chai Lay Ching, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Education, Employability, and Alumni) of Sunway University and co-chair of the China-Malaysia Innovation Future Summit 2024, remarked, “Sunway University is honored to host this prestigious summit, which exemplifies our dedication to fostering innovation and collaboration between Malaysia and China.”
