Diploma in Medical Laboratory Technology
About
Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) is a vital profession within the allied health science (AHS) group. Unlike nurses and medical assistants, MLTs often work behind the scenes, yet they play a crucial role in the healthcare system. As the backbone of medical laboratory services, they are involved at all stages of laboratory testing, from pre-clinical to post-clinical procedures.
A Medical Laboratory Technologist is an AHS professional responsible for diagnosing diseases to aid in treatment, rehabilitation, and prevention through clinical laboratory tests. Their primary function is to conduct diagnostic tests in hospital and health clinic laboratories, producing results that assist doctors in making accurate diagnoses. These tests are performed on various specimens, including blood, urine, body fluids, stool, and tissue samples. MLTs ensure that the specimens collected are suitable for testing and that accurate results are delivered promptly to support effective medical treatment.
SEGi College’s programme includes a 28-week Medical Laboratory Placement in the third year, providing hands-on industry experience.
Graduates of this programme can pursue careers in government hospitals, private laboratories, reference laboratories, research institutions, medical supply and manufacturing companies, product development, and pharmaceutical industries.
