Doctor in Periodontology
About
The three-year clinical coursework program known as the Doctor in Periodontology (DrPerio) is intended to effectively integrate knowledge covering the thorough diagnosis and management of patients in need of periodontology and implantology treatment procedures. Candidates are also exposed to a multidisciplinary health team through this curriculum, which equips them with the broad information they need to treat patients holistically.
Under the supervision of their research supervisor, each student will complete a periodontology research project as part of the curriculum. The findings of the research will be written up as a thesis, and the scientific publication or papers may be published in journals.
Seminars, journal clubs, case presentations, small group discussions, clinical skill training using animal specimens and/or model simulations, clinical training on patients for non-surgical and various periodontal surgical procedures, etc., are some of the teaching methods used to deliver the program. As part of their entrepreneurial training, students learn how to perform audits and deliver audit reports. Additionally, kids can take part in community service initiatives and camps to promote social responsibility.
Students must have earned a one-year Master of Orofacial Sciences degree with a periodontology concentration, or a comparable degree, in order to enrol in this program. A specialised training path is created by combining a one-year Master's degree with a three-year Doctorate program. Under the Malaysian Dental Act of 2018, graduates of this program will be qualified to become accredited periodontology specialists.

Entry Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree: Bachelor's Degree in Dentistry or its equivalent.
- Clinical Experience: A minimum of 2 years of clinical experience after graduation.
- Master's Degree: Master of Orofacial Sciences with an elective in Periodontology module or an equivalent Coursework Master program.
- Experience: Registered with the Malaysian Dental Council (MDC) and holds a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC), or registered with the dental regulatory body in another country and eligible to be granted a Temporary Practising Certificate (TPC) by MDC.
