Asia Pacific University (APU)’s Students Exposed to Local & International Employers from More Than 120 Companies

Kuala Lumpur, 15 May 2019: Human resources (HR) personnel from more than 120 Malaysian and international companies participated in the Mega Career Fair organized by the Career Centre of Asia Pacific University of Technology & Innovation (APU) today.

The APU Mega Career Fair is an annual effort by APU’s Career Centre, with aims to create a platform for students and alumni to engage with their future employers and to explore possible internship / full-time job opportunities before they graduate. Its previous installation took place in August last year, with participation from 80 employers.

The 1-day career fair saw participation from approximately 6,000 students, comprising students who are currently undergoing the second year or final year of their programmes, as well as alumni who have recently graduated from their bachelor’s and master’s degrees. Apart from exhibition booths, face-to-face interview facilities were prepared as part of the career fair, for HR personnel to conduct an interview with potential candidates on-the-spot.

In total, more than 1,500 full-time and internship opportunities were offered locally and internationally, in the fields of Information Technology (IT), Data Science, Cyber Security, Finance, Accounting, Business Management, Marketing, Administration, Engineering, Actuarial Science, Design, Events Management and more.

“PwC was here last year and we are here again today! We are pleased to meet APU’s diverse crowd ranging from students who are under the Computer Science programmes, to those who are studying Actuarial Studies. Students are also from diverse cultural backgrounds, and this is the kind of diversity that we are looking for, in line with PwC’s objectives,” expressed a spokesperson from PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), who were amongst the 120 HR personnel at the career fair.

A representative from DHL Asia Pacific Shared Services indicated their interest of hiring international positions at the career fair, “In our opinion, APU is the most internationalised university in Malaysia, hence we are here to look for interns and fresh graduates to join our Finance and Accounts team amongst the international and local talent pool at APU.”

Other participating exhibitors include Petronas, Zurich Insurance, AIG, Time DotCom, Schlumberger, Oracle, Astro, Top Glove Malaysia, Maybank, KPMG, Public Bank, HSBC, Experian, Dimension Data, Averis, BDO, Nettium and more. The exhibitors’ list also comprised delegate representatives for companies in  Japan, Singapore, Vietnam and Indonesia, such as Luxsoft, CrimsonLogic, Axrail and Kentsu Co.Ltd.

The career fair attracted local and international students from multiple disciplines. Zhuldyz, final year student of the BA (Hons) in Media Marketing programme from Kazakhstan, attended and expressed, “I’m here today to explore careers for my future, and I’m happy to speak with several companies offering marketing positions including Astro, I look forward to securing a job opportunity soon!”

Year 2 students of APU (Year 3 for students under Engineering programmes) are required to undergo a 16-weeks internship programme as part of their course. Emeline Wang, second year student of the BSc (Hons) in Software Engineering programme, was amongst the Year 2 students who were searching for an internship opportunity. “I’ve found a few companies who are positive about having me as an intern, as I’m looking for a job related to programming, I find these opportunities very relevant for my future,” said Wang, at the career fair.

Several APU alumni were amongst the hiring team who were representing their employers. Yelena Stepanenko, class of 2018 alumnus of the BA (Hons) in Accounting & Finance with a specialism in Internal Audit, who is currently working as an Anaplan Consultant at Cloud IoT Sdn Bhd, represented her company at the career fair, offering internship and job opportunities in the Data Science and IT fields. “It’s always good to be back at APU! Being a graduate from the system, I am confident of my juniors and my alma mater; when I know that my company is one of the exhibitors of the APU Mega Career Fair, I’ve decided to volunteer to be a part of the hiring team, meeting my juniors who possess great potentialities,” said Stepanenko.

Some of the participating exhibitors gathered potential applications for open positions at their companies.
