Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in Animation

About

This program is specifically designed to provide students with a strong foundation in animation, along with advanced technical, analytical thinking, and communication skills.

In Year 1, students will learn the core principles of animation, exploring both 2D and CG animation techniques. Semester 2 builds on these foundations with further development of animation principles.

In Year 2, students will focus on character development, refining audio dialogue and body gestures, and learning action integration techniques. They will also be introduced to advanced lighting, camera work for shot composition, and model-making with a focus on set building. Additionally, students have the option to study experimental animation.

In Year 3, students will create a series of short animations showcasing performance-based animation skills. The program places strong emphasis on professional practice, preparing students for greater employment prospects in the animation industry upon graduation.

Application & Student Visa Fees

STAGE 1 (Payable upon acceptance of offer) RM 2,650 (approx. USD 620)* is payable when you have accepted the offer. This fee includes Visa Processing Fees by Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) and APU/APIIT Application & Processing Fees. This also entitles you to airport assistance and transfer to the University/accommodation upon first arrival in Malaysia. Please note that this Fee is non-refundable once the offer has been accepted. STAGE 2 (Payable upon Student Pass Visa Approval) RM 1,500 (approx. USD 350)* is payable once your Student Pass is approved. This fee includes the post-arrival processing fee, EMGS medical check-up in Malaysia, Medical Insurance for a year, i-Kad (International Student Card issued by Immigration Malaysia) charged to ALL International students in Malaysia, Electronic Visa Approval Letter (eVal), and the Student Pass Fees for one-year. The i-Kad issued by Immigration Malaysia will enable students to avoid having to carry their passports around for identification purposes and will be tied to their Student Pass Validity and will be re-issued at visa renewal. Please note that this Fee is non-refundable once the Student Pass Visa Approval Letter (VAL) has been issued by EMGS.

Entry Requirements

Direct Entry to Level 1 of the Degree

STPM

  • A Pass in STPM with a minimum Grade C (GP 2.00) in any 2 subjects.

A-Level

  • 2 Passes (Grade A-D) in A-Level.

UEC

  • 5 Grade B’s in UEC.

Matriculation/Foundation

  • A Pass in Matriculation or Foundation studies with a minimum CGPA of 2.00.

Direct Entry to Level 2 of the Degree

Related Diploma

  • A Diploma (Level 4, MQF) with a minimum CGPA of 2.00, or its equivalent.

  • A pass in DKM / DLKM / DVM with a minimum CGPA of 2.50 subjected to HEP Senate/Academic Board’s approval.

Portfolio

  • Note: Pass an Interview OR submission of Design Portfolio as required.

Additional Notes

Equivalent qualification and/or experience which is recognised by the Senate/institution.

The above entry requirements may differ for specific programmes based on the latest programme standards published by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA). The qualification and entry requirements for the programmes will be determined based on the "Comparison List of Equivalency of International Qualifications with SPM (O-Levels equivalent) and STPM (A-Levels equivalent)" published by the Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA).
