About University of Northern British Columbia

The University of Northern British Columbia (UNBC) is a public university that was established in 1990. As one of British Columbia’s research-intensive universities, it is also one of Canada’s best small universities. In 2014, UNBC ranked second place among the Canadian universities and has been place amongst the top three for seven consecutive years. In 2013-2014 academic year, over 4000 students were enrolled at UNBC.

The main campus of UNBC is located in Prince George, British Columbia. UNBC also has regional campuses in the northern British Columbia cities of Prince Rupert, Terrace, Quesnel, and Fort St. John. The University's motto "En cha huná" literally means "He/she also lives" in the Nak'azdli dialect of Carrier. It means that "other people have their point of view" or "respect everyone's point of view".

In 2007, the university obtained the trademark for "Canada's Green University". UNBC is located in a spectacular region with an abundance of natural resources. UNBC reflects this environment in the architecture of the campus, the environmental focus of much of the research, operation, teaching and campus events, as well as through the green activities of many of the students.
